MelaNation Zine Issue 5 – Afrofuturism

Thank you for your interest in submitting a creative piece to MelaNation Zine!

We are currently accepting submissions from Black artists and writers in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia that explore Afrofuturism. Afrofuturism is a cultural movement that uses the frame of speculative fiction (science fiction and fantasy) to re-imagine the history of the African diaspora and to invoke a vision of a technically advanced and generally hopeful future in which Black people thrive. This movement is expressed through art, cinema, literature, music, fashion, and more!

We are seeking creative submissions of all types—illustrations, poetry, comics, essays, stories, and photography. The deadline for submissions is August 1, 2020. Submit your work here.

Upon publication, contributors will be paid $50–$100 depending on form and number/length of works published. If you have any questions, please reach out to us via our contact form and we’ll get right back to you.

Stay unapologetically Black, y’all.
